The produce section at a grocery store

Be nice to people

Posted in:

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, my family has been taking advantage of the online pick up option available at the supermarket chain in our area. We place our order online and receive a 1 hour time slot to head to the store and pick up our groceries. When you get to the store, you just call to tell them which parking spot you are in and they put the groceries right in your trunk for you.

This weekend, was no different. I pulled up, called the store, and the employee came out to drop our order in the trunk of my car. I thanked her before she closed my hatchback.

“Thank you. I appreciate you”.

She stopped in her tracks and was taken back. I wasn’t sure if she had forgotten to put something in my car.

“Thank you. It’s really nice to hear that. This week has been absolutely crazy. It’s so nice to know that.”

It was pouring rain. The online pickup saves me at least an hour’s worth of time that I was able to spend with my family instead. And, oh ya, we’re in a global pandemic. I greatly appreciated her time and effort.

You never know who needs to hear that their stressful, day to day is having a positive impact on someone else.

Tell people how you feel. Especially when you appreciate them.
